At K'S Lavish Beauty, we do knotless braids in Brampton with no knot at the root. We start with your own hair and add the braiding hair a little at a time. That makes the braids lie flat and pull less than box braids.
Knotless braids are still braids. If they go in too tight or too heavy, they can still hurt. So we talk about size, length, and how tight you like them before we start.

Knotless braids are a great choice, but they are not the only one. Your hair length, your scalp, the braid size, and how long you want to wear them all matter.

Your hair needs to be clean, brushed out, and dry before we braid.
Each braid starts with your own hair. We add the braiding hair slowly and check that it does not pull.

For standard knotless braids we use pre-stretched synthetic braiding hair, and Kay reaches for X-Pression. It feeds in smooth, it comes in the lengths and colours people actually ask for, and it is what most of our Brampton clients walk out with.
Human hair is the better call in a few specific cases. Boho and curly looks, scalps that react to synthetic, and anyone who wants to wash the hair and wear it again. Here is how to tell which one you are.

Use synthetic pre-stretched hair for standard knotless braids. It costs a fraction of what human hair does, it holds a braid well, and it is what nearly everyone books with. Go with human hair if your scalp reacts to synthetic fibre, if you want boho or curly ends that keep their pattern, or if you plan to reuse the hair.
The thing worth knowing before winter is that synthetic and dry air do not get along. Cold outside and the furnace inside both pull moisture out of your hair, and you cannot put moisture back into synthetic fibre. Leave-in and oil just sit on top and leave it looking dull. Human hair takes a light leave-in the way your own hair does, so it rides out a Brampton winter better.

We reach for X-Pression pre-stretched (opens in a new tab) most often for standard knotless braids. It comes ready to braid and has lots of lengths and colours.
If your scalp itches easy, RUWA pre-stretched (opens in a new tab) is worth a look. It is made to itch less and frizz less.
Human hair earns its price on boho and curly knotless, and on scalps that react to synthetic. There is one we point people to, so you buy the right thing the first time.
If you want human hair in your knotless braids, Outre MyTresses Gold Label pre-stretched bulk (opens in a new tab) is the one to get. It is unprocessed human hair and it comes pre-stretched, so it feeds in the same way the synthetic we use every day does.
Where to shop
Most of our clients buy their braiding hair at Clore Beauty Supply in Trinity Common, and that is where we pick up our own. It is about 20 minutes from the salon and it usually has what we send people in for. BSW is the other one worth knowing, mostly for when Clore is out of a colour.
Hair is not included with any of our knotless services, so this part is on you. Send us your braid size and length before you go and we will tell you how many packs to get, so you are not making a second trip.
This is where we get our own supplies. The Trinity Common store is about 20 minutes from the salon, and it usually has the X-Pression and RUWA we send people in for.
Our backup when Clore is out of the colour or length you need. Also in Brampton, so it is not much of a detour if you strike out on the first stop.
Stock and colours move fast. Call ahead if you need a specific colour or length, especially before a weekend.
Knotless braids usually look good for about 6 to 8 weeks. That works best when the braids go in right, you care for them at home, and you take them out on time. Small braids hide new growth longer, and big braids show it sooner. The season moves that number too, which we get into just below.
Wear a satin scarf or bonnet. It cuts frizz and stops pulling on your edges.
Use a little scalp oil when you need it. Too much oil or edge gel builds up.
Put watered-down shampoo on your scalp, then make sure your roots dry all the way.
Do not keep them past the point where your roots start to tangle or knot.
If the braids feel too tight, your scalp stays sore, or they pull your edges, call us. Do not wait for it to pass.
Season by season
Knotless braids last about six to eight weeks in Brampton, and winter usually pushes you toward the shorter end of that. The reason is dry air. Cold outside and the furnace running inside both pull the moisture out of your hair, and dry hair frizzes.
Synthetic braiding hair takes that harder than human hair does, because you cannot put the moisture back into it. Then add a wool hat and a coat collar rubbing the same spot every day, and the ends always go first. None of that means skip synthetic in December. Most of our clients wear it year round and they are happy with it. Just know where you are sitting in the range.
Cold air outside, dry heat inside. Your scalp will flake sooner than it does in July, and the ends fuzz first where your hat and collar rub.
Sweat, humidity, pools, and the lake. The braids often still feel fine at week six, they just stop looking new sooner.
Either way, your takedown date matters more than the season. Do not push past the point where your roots start to knot.
A different braid might fit you better if the time, curls, age, or start method matters more to you.
